With over 25 years in the athletic industry, Nkosi has worked in many capacities over the years. Deeply passionate about sports, at a very young age he began organizing and planning events for his peers in the neighbourhood. Excelling in various sports such as basketball, football, and soccer, Nkosi eventually decided to solely focus on basketball.
During his playing days Nkosi was standout point guard at Pickering High School, where he captained the team from 1993-98 while leading the team to 5 consecutive LOSSA Championships. He was awarded the Mr. Basketball Award, as the top player in the school. After high school, Nkosi was a member of Centennial College’s basketball team before becoming involved in coaching youth basketball in his community.
After graduating from Centennial College’s Social Work & Recreation/Leisure programs, he completed his Bachelor of Sport Management degree at Brock University in 2003 and founded Durham City Basketball Association (DCBA), a non-profit organization for boys and girls ages 4-19. The club has won numerous provincial championships and experienced many successes over the years. DCBA continues to serve the Durham Region and is one of the largest clubs in the Ontario Basketball Association. He was also a coach at Pickering High School, one of the top High school basketball programs in Canada from 2004 – 2016 and won numerous championships and mentored many players that went on to play at the post-secondary level.
In 2011, Nkosi was a Senior Advisor of the Oshawa Power of the newly established National Basketball League of Canada. His duties included basketball operations, community outreach, strategic planning, and marketing. He continued in this role until the team relocated to Mississauga in 2013.
From 2012 – 2016, Nkosi was an assistant coach at Centennial College. He was responsible for recruiting potential athletes and building relationships with coaches in the community.
In 2016, Nkosi was named head coach of the newly established basketball program at University of Toronto Mississauga. With a strong background in working with new programs, Nkosi was quickly able to establish a program culture and the team improved in each of its’ 3 years in the Ontario College Athletic Association. He has been successful in recruiting high academic
basketball players and establishing annual events such as the University of Toronto Mississauga high school boy’s tournament and a showcase for prospective players throughout Ontario.
Professionally, Nkosi has worked as a Youth Probation Officer for 15 years assisting youth in conflict with the criminal justice system. Developing & implementing comprehensive case management plans, advocating for youth before the courts and motivational counselling are some of the tasks’ he completes daily.
Mentoring youth has been a part of Nkosi’s life for over 20 years. In 2012 Nkosi was awarded the Ontario Ministry of Children and Youth Services Pinnacle Award for outstanding volunteer work in his community.
In 2019, Nkosi played an instrumental role in establishing the new basketball program at Royal Crown Academic School in Scarborough. As the Director of Basketball Operations & Athletics, his duties included hiring, budgeting, planning, organizing, scheduling, marketing, sponsorship, liaising with school staff and the student athlete’s parents.
In 2021, Nkosi founded KO Athletics & Consulting, the company offers a variety of athletic services to athletes and established C.O.D.E. Sports Academy, (Chasing Our Dreams Everyday) an academic and athletic program that will enhance the overall development of each student athlete.
The program provides participants with a private school education and elite competition and exposure opportunities throughout Canada and the United States. Student athlete development will be delivered through a multidisciplinary team with extensive experience in education and athletics.
Nkosi’s diverse experience working in athletics, education, social services, and program development at each level has provided him with a wealth of knowledge and contacts in the industry. He continues to be passionate about helping young people reach their goals and live out their dreams. He is a hard worker and cares deeply about the community and is passionate about providing opportunities for student athletes. .
Nkosi resides in Whitby with his wife Jan and two children Isaiah and Abigail.
